FCYO Unveils the Power to Win Framework, A Path to Transformative Justice in Youth Organizing

POSTED: 5.18.2023

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

[MAY 18, 2023] – The Funders’ Collaborative on Youth Organizing (FCYO) is pleased to announce the public debut of the Power to Win Framework. The Framework is FCYO’s attempt to outline what it will take for the youth organizing field to address its growth edges and take leadership in a movement for structural transformation.

The Framework begins with a definition of the “Power to Win,” the term FCYO uses to describe the ability of youth-led and intergenerational community organizations to advance structural transformation and change conditions for people in their communities. This is followed by descriptions of four distinct but interconnected pillars: Long-Term Strategic Orientation, Transformative Leadership Development, Organizing for Power, and Assessment and Experimentation.

“After years of collaboration, refinement, and strategic partnerships, FCYO is excited to offer this Framework as a guiding North Star for the youth organizing field and movement leaders,” said Mónica Córdova, Executive Director of FCYO.

The Framework acknowledges the structural inequalities of our economic and social system and emphasizes the need to build mass social movements capable of controlling the conditions of our communities and society as a whole. It recognizes the pivotal role of working-class young people, particularly those facing racial and gender oppression, in catalyzing the transformative movements we require.

“The launch of the Power to Win Framework represents FCYO's commitment to harnessing its power as a funding intermediary to catalyze transformative change,” said James Lopez, Executive Director of Power U Center Social Change. “By engaging in deep partnerships based on mutual accountability with organizers, FCYO aims to rise to the challenges together and create a more just society.”

Through the Power to Win Framework, FCYO aims to enhance the capacity of youth organizing initiatives to evaluate their work, unlock new potentials, and drive meaningful change through organizational shifts.

About FCYO: The Funders Collaborative on Youth Organizing brings funders and youth organizers together to ensure that young people have the resources, capacities, and infrastructure they need to organize for a more just and democratic society. Over the last twenty years, we have helped to build a strong and vibrant youth organizing field across the United States. We have deep relationships with both youth organizing groups and philanthropy, the capacity to move resources to grassroots groups across the country, and the ability to help groups connect and build the capacities needed to address the challenges of this moment.
