Youth CORE National Convening - Youth POWER

"One of the things that has to be faced is the process of waiting to change the system, how much we have got to do to find out who we are, where we have come from and where we are going.”

- Ella Baker

In November of 2015, The Funders' Collaborative on Youth Organizing (FCYO), in partnership with the Youth Organizing Institute, held our first national convening or youth organizers and leaders. This convening is a program of FCYO’s Youth Community Organizing Resource Exchange (Youth CORE) which seeks to help build a stronger and more stable youth organizing field by bringing together a large number of youth organizers from across the country to share learnings, build relationships, and develop common strategy.

Youth POWER: "Who we are, Where we have come from and Where we are going" took place November 13th, 14th & 15th at the Hayti Cultural Heritage Center in Durham, North Carolina. All told, 250 youth leaders, activists, cultural workers, communicators and organizers from over 100 organizations across the country came together for a variety of workshops, trainings, plenary discussions, tours, and relationship building. Due to space and budget restrictions, and overwhelming interest from youth organizers from diverse backgrounds focused on many different issue areas, slots at this convening were limited; we hope to open our next convening in the spring of 2017 to many more participants, and we appreciate your patience during this first year.
