Looking Forward: Youth Leading the Way Toward a Sustainable Planet
Download (5 MB)
We are pleased to release our report “Looking Forward: Youth Leading the Way Toward a Sustainable Planet”, which captures lessons learned from our grantmaking intiative, ReGeneraions: Youth Leadership Expansion for Environmental Justice (ReGen/EJ). Through ReGen/EJ, a three-year grantmaking initiative that supported grassroots and youth-led efforts in environmental justice, FCYO provided grants, technical assistance, and convening opportunities to a cohort of grantees. This report provides case studies in two key areas – climate justice and clean water – and highlights the multiple impacts ReGen/EJ made on individual young people, organizations, the environmental justice community, and mainstream environmentalism. FCYO is honored to have served the 11 organizations of the ReGen/EJ cohort and to serve the movement for environmental justice. We celebrate the victories and significant accomplishments within the environmental justice movement, and through this report, reflect on the significant contributions and leadership that have come from young people. ![]()

We at FCYO are very excited to release our 2010 Youth Organizing Field Scan - a result of in-depth regional conversations, on-line surveys and one-on-one discussions with over 100 organizations.
FCYO conducts national field scans using a combination of quantitative and qualitative research to document trends, challenges and opportunities. Field scans provide an opportunity to inform FCYO’s strategy and to help advocate for the field of youth organizing.
Many thanks to the organizations who participated in our surveys and regional conversations. For a full list of participants, please click here.
Roots Initiative Toolkit

From 2003-2006, the FCYO implemented and coordinated the Roots Initiative, a grantmaking and capacity-building project involving ten dynamic Youth Organizing groups from around the country. Overall, we hoped to develop, analyze and take action on information both macro and micro: macro considerations of the state of youth organizing practice, generally, as illustrated by the ten groups; and micro, focusing on ways to address specific capacity-building challenges faced by individual groups.
This Toolkit provides, additionally, various suites of tools (in the form of templates, worksheets and exercises) that we hope are useful to organizations undertaking a broad range of organizational development efforts.
